This week on The Amazing Race, teams start right where they left off, on a pier in Poland. They will travel by train to Vienna, Austria and go to the costume department of the Opera House to receive their next clue. I Hate You Too leaves first and waits for the Massholes so they can work together. Everyone except the LaLas and the Cousins make it onto the first train, but they all meet up for a connection in Warsaw.
Ah, Vienna. Land of music and The Sound Of Music. Once at the Opera House, so full of Detours, it’s a choice between Light Brigade and Masquerade. All of the teams choose Masquerade, so we’ll forget the other one even exists. For the Detour, teams must wear masks, join a ball-in-progress, and match their masks with the ones on the dancing couples. Sounds easy, but there are subtle differences and lots of twirling.
There’s also a Fast Forward at the Donauturm, which is the highest structure in Vienna. The Doctors and the Massholes both go for the Fast Forward, but the Massholes get a cab first so the Doctors wisely bail out and go to the masquerade task. The Fast Forward is a 500-foot bungee jump…and it’s closed because it’s too windy. The Massholes can wait 10-15 minutes for the wind to maybe die down, so a fight ensues about whether it’s worth hanging around. She wants to wait, he doesn’t, they call each other “baby,” he agrees to wait but thinks “it’s dumb,” then they leave.
I Hate You Too finish the masquerade task first and have to go someplace with “wiener” in the name. They are followed by the Cousins and the LaLas. The Doctors are the last ones to finish but get out of there before the Massholes arrive which means they are in deep, deep trouble.
Roadblock! Teams must join the Vienna Boy’s Choir and learn Di Forelle by Schubert. Oh man. Singing. In German. I guess that’s another thing I can’t do. Travis (the Doctors) is surprisingly good at the singing task, and Tim (I Hate You Too) is surprisingly bad. The kids assemble and Travis joins the chorus. The kids are laughing, and the conductor sends him back for more practice. A Cousin is up next, more giggling, more practice. It’s time for a LaLa, she’s mocked by a small child, back to work. Tim also gets sent back to the practice rooms, and dogs started howling at the Golddigger’s voice.
Travis gives the song a second attempt in a lower octave. Smart move, as Travis completes the Roadblock first. The clue sends the Doctors to search Schonbrunn Palace for their next clue. The Golddiggers finish next, followed by the Cousins and I Hate You Too. Then the Massholes finish, but their cab is gone. I Hate You Too took their taxi, which is a sin punishable by extreme side-eye.
The clue is somewhere in a garden maze. Although the Golddiggers find it first, they take a wrong turn on the way to the pit stop at the top of a hill which allows the Doctors to check in as Team Number One. The Golddiggers and the Cousins check in second and third. When the Massholes arrive at the palace, they see their cab driver and I Hate You Too’s bags in the back seat. Both teams meet up on the mat, which is a tad awkward and leads to a fight and threats of ass kicking, so next week’s episode should be extra special.
Only the LaLas and the Oil Riggers are left at the Roadblock. Ally gets it right on her fifth attempt, and Tim looks positively nauseated. His fifth attempt is also successful, but it’s too late. The LaLas check in as Team Number Whatever, and the Oil Riggers are eliminated from the race.
