It’s the final episode of Brew Dogs, which is the episode immediately following the penultimate episode of Brew Dogs. And what better place to finish off a television season than Tinseltown. The City of Angels. The place where dreams are made, and then crushed, and then E! True Hollywood Stories are made about the dreams being crushed. Los Angeles.

Because Los Angeles is not a natural brew city, there’s a lot of home brew happening. So there is a home brew scene, and it’s naturally very competitive. James and Martin team up with the Maltose Falcon and visit Golden Road, a hoppy brewy place that boasts Meg, one of the first female brewers in the region.

Anyway. There’s this home brewer guy named Dana who is battling some other home brewer guy named Andy over something having to do with a coin toss. The winner gets to pick James or Martin as their assistant brewer. Andy wins and picks James (good choice), and Dana gets stuck with Martin. Then, there’s a magical local ingredient. Dana and Martin are tasked with making a citrus flavored beer, and Andy and James must use sage. I’m thinking the sage is going to be a tad more difficult to work with than the citrus, so this should be interesting.

The top 5 craft beer bars in Los Angeles are:

5. Blue Palms Brewhouse (in the thick of Los Angeles)

4. The Daily Pint (it’s in Santa Monica)

3. The Surly Goat (West Hollywood)

2. The Glendale Tap (in Glendale, duh)

1. Naja’s Place (88 beers on tap)

Martin and Dana settle on a sour malt for their citrus beer and choose their hops as carefully as I choose my shoes. Then, it’s off to pick some citrus and sage. Did you know that there’s an entire ranch just for sage? It’s all sorts of rocky, which I guess is how sage grows. A park ranger helps them find sage amongst the rocks, which comes in white, black, and purple. Meanwhile, Martin and Dana are peacefully picking grapefruits and oranges in fruit groves.

The top 5 craft breweries in Los Angeles are:

5. San Pedro Brewing Co.

4. Eagle Rock Brewery

3. Ladyface Ale Companie

2. Smog City Brewing Co.

1. Beachwood BBQ & Brewing

Home brewing happens in homes, so we get a peek into Los Angeles living. Not going to lie, Andy’s backyard is kind of weak. Dana’s desert oasis pretty much kicks its butt. However, Andy’s brewing setup looks way more…professional? I mean, why is Dana cooking in an Igloo cooler and stirring with a spatula?

Ooh, a secret ingredient! I hope it ruins everything (yes, I am that awful). Avocado. Uh…what? Why would you add an avocado to beer? Its high fat content can make the texture all sorts of awful, and the seed is totally useless. I mean, that’s just cruel. Martin and Dana play it safe and add it to the wort, while James and Andy infuse vodka with the avocado and sage.

The winner gets to put their beer on tap at Golden Road for one month, which I guess is a big deal. So who brewed the most SoCal beer with their local secret ingredients? Martin and Dana made a quadruple citrus, triple hopped, double IPA. It’s called “refreshing” but a bit sugary. “It’s like breakfast juice.” James and Andy brewed a saison. It is described as “peppery and earthy,” and it’d be “great poolside.”

The winner is unanimously the saison from James and Andy. Aw. Poor Martin. He strikes me as someone who rarely ever wins.

And that wraps up another season of Brew Dogs. Cheers! *clink*

Brew Dogs makes its inevitable trip to New Orleans, a town with a long but spotty history of craft beer brewing.

To honor the history of New Orleans and its spirit of rebuilding, James and Martin set out to revive a dead beer, which is called a “resurrection beer.” Their first stop is Nola Brewery (New Orleans Lagers and Ales). After tasting a sour beer, they focus on the Peterman as a potential candidate to rise from the dead—a sour, Belgian wheat beer.

Whose stupid idea was it to use swamp water for beer brewing? I mean, seriously? Why? That’s just disgusting. Gators poop in that water! Good luck with that, boys.

Mayhaw, what are mayhaws? Apparently they are things that old people like since two adorable folks serve James and Martin mayhaw jelly over pound cake. The old guy who looks suspiciously like George Dubya takes James and Martin out to the orchard to pick some unripened mayhaw fruit. It looks like a large berry crossed with a nut and from the faces they are making, does not taste much better.

Next stop is a voodoo princess, or priestess. I’m not sure which, but she’s dressed all in white so I’m thinking there’s a marriage in her future. Well, at least it’s still before Labor Day. Anyway, the boys need her help if they’re going to raise a beer from the dead. Jars are opened, spells are spoken, and for some reason James wants to put a creepy ball of dust and twine called the Rose Of Jericho in the beer. I’m sure that won’t taste at all disgusting.

Listicle time! The top five craft beer bars in New Orleans are:

5. Cooter Brown’s Tavern & Oyster Bar

4. Pearl Wine Co.

3. The Bulldog (yes, there is a bulldog in the bar)

2. D.B.A.

1. The Avenue Pub (40 beers on tap, which I’m pretty sure is a lot)

Sainte Marie is the location for a food and beer pairing, because where there’s beer, there’s food. Or at least that ought to be the law. But first, bribes are offered. I mean, it is New Orleans. There’s beef tartar with a mole sauce that is paired with a malty beer, and shrimp and grits paired with an IPA. Finally, a beef broth with soft boiled egg, ramen noodle, beef, and shrimp. It is paired nicely with a beer that uses all French ingredients, which just sounds weird.

It’s off to the swamp to resurrect a beer. Oh thank goodness, they are going to purify the swamp water. Using one of those swamp river boats that looks like it has a giant fan on the back which the Googles tells me is an airboat. So. Swamp water goes in, something not quite resembling fresh water comes out. While the mash is resting, James and Martin are taken on a tour of the swamps. Aaaaand their boat gets stuck. Oh hi, alligator! Please don’t eat the hosts. Martin hops on the boat as it starts up again, but James gets stuck in the swamp. For real, I think, because they left him with a producer and a very unsettling gathering of insects. He eventually gets picked up by the camera boat without even losing a limb, so all is well.

The top five craft breweries in Louisiana are:

5. Crescent City Brewhouse

4 Gnarly Barley Brewing (you can skateboard while drinking!)

3. Abita Brewing (a New Orleans classic)

2. Tin Roof Brewing

1. Bayou Teche Brewing

Finally, James and Martin take a preliminary sip of their golden brew. Nobody gets sick from the swamp water, but there’s still time. After the beer has fermented for two weeks, the crowd gets a taste. Of course they love it, I mean they’re probably already drunk!

Next week is the season finale which takes on the glittery, star-filled city of Los Angeles.

This week on Brew Dogs, James and Martin are in Juneau, Alaska to brew…a very cold beer? No, it’s a survival brew.

Their first decision is to smoke the malt because meat in Alaska tends to be smoked for survival purposes. There’s also a lot of spruce tips floating around which taste sprucy while adding a bit of vitamin c to ward off the sniffles. Did you know that sailors used to drink beer on large voyages to ward off scurvy? And when there weren’t any hops, spruce tips did the trick.

Fishing. Beer. Fishing while drinking beer. Perfect! James and Martin hop aboard a tiny boat and head for one of the bazillion local islands somewhere off the coast of the wilderness. Their chief engineer, David Donley, arrives rather awkwardly via sea plane and explains that the plane is their brew system. Along with the plane, he brings trail mix, bread, and sourdough starter. Which means they’re making a traditional Russian bread beer. [Insert joke about seeing Russia from my pint glass.]

The ingredients, including birch syrup, are mixed together in a Ziploc bag to get the yeast going. Now, it’s time to get the brew going. Which requires an avalanche specialist who also bills himself as a survival specialist. Isn’t that, like, redundant? He brings kayaks so that James and Martin can find a glacier, for the fresh water.

And the top five craft breweries in Alaska are:

5. Broken Tooth Brewing

4. 49th State Brewing Co. (Yak burgers!)

3. HooDoo Brewing Co. (only one 5-gallon keg per person per day, so pace yourself)

2. Midnight Sun Brewing Co.

1. Anchorage Brewing Co.

Several hours later, there’s a pit stop at an ice cave. Ooh! Pretty! And, it chills the beer beautifully. But the warmer beer from James’s pocket is much tastier since cold beer masks the flavor. Finally, they arrive at an ice field and learn how hard it is to hitch ice to a kayak and tow it back to the island.

So how do you turn a seaplane into a brewing system? And how do you get back to the mainland without said seaplane? I’m thinking these are faux plan parts, since I didn’t see anything that would, like, cop metal into bits and pieces, let alone bend metal into the right shape. Yeah, bogus.

Anyway, the glacier ice melts and heats and the mash is resting. Uh, yuck. Sea bugs, and not the lobster variety. They just look…gross. And they live under rocks. There’s also slimy seaweed stew and a bit of freshly caught flounder.

We’ve got the top five craft beer bars in Alaska:

5. Tap Root (open mic night)

4. The Hangar on the Wharf

3. Salt (delicious food, good craft beer selection)

2. Humpy’s Great Alaskan Alehouse

1. Café Amsterdam (Belgian and Alaskan craft brews on tap)

The brew is brewing, the hops are hopping, and there’s too much malt going into the filter so James uses his sock because this wasn’t gross enough. Toss in some spruce tips and some birch syrup and it’s time to chill the wort in the ice cold sea. When it’s roomish temperature, the yeast is added to the mix and the guys have a toast to the stunning scenery.

After fermenting for two weeks, James and Martin host a beach bonfire and give the beer a taste. Does the crowd (well, a crowd by Alaska standards) love the beer? They seem fairly happy. Probably because nobody mentioned the sock filter.

Ah, wine country. The perfect place for brewing a sparkling amber glass of beer. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is Northern California’s most famous beer, so it’s good that they chose to name it after an entirely other state. And did you know that UC Davis teaches craft brewing? Kids these days, their parents must be so proud.

Oh! Bear Republic beer! There’s actually a bottle or two of that in my fridge. It’s all coming together now. Roger Herbst, the Bear Republic beer specialist, shows James and Martin around town while they try some of the brewery’s IPAs. Kind of cool, they get a lot of their barrels from the wineries when they’re done fermenting wine.

James and Martin head to Tedeschi Winery for a tour of the other liquid. They stomp some grapes and taste the fruits of their footy labor. They take a batch to add to their beer because the sugars and plums will make for a delicious fermentation.

Next, it’s the Sierra Nevada Brewery. They load up an RV with beer and some guy whose name I didn’t catch for a lesson in imperial stouts. It is decided that they will brew their wine beer as a stout. I’m a little confused as to why they need to ride around in an RV, but okay.

Are you ready for the first listicle? The top 5 craft breweries in Northern California are:

5. Rubicon Brewing Co.

4. Redwood Curtain Brewing Co. (only available at the brewery)

3. The Rare Barrel (sour beer!)

2. Moonlight Brewing Co.

1. Russian River Brewing Co.

And now we’re milking cows. “It’s like squeezing an old prune.” Eew! James milked the cow with his mouth! Why?!

The top 5 craft beer bars in Northern California are:

5. The Banshee (open late)

4. Railroad Station Bar and Grill (70 craft beer and plenty of wine)

3. The Handle Bar

2. Heritage Public House

1. The Winchester Goose (locally sourced food and tasty craft beer)

Gather ‘round the campfire and I’ll tell you a story about grilled trout and sour peach beer. Mmm, looks pretty delicious. James offers up a black IPA with charred hot dogs. S’mores! Apparently they pair with a barrel-aged porter.

It’s back to UC Davis for state-of-the-art brewing equipment and an actual Professor Of Beer who is an adorable little English man named Terrence. And now, a lesson in pouring:

Take the top off of the bottle;

Present the label; and

Pour.

Well, that taught me nothing.

When the beer is done, it is deemed Collaboration Stout since it is a combination of Bear Republic, Sierra Nevada, wine, and cow juice. And the verdict? Drink up! Naked, and in the river, for some reason.

This week the Brew Dogs find themselves in Durango, Colorado, a one-horse town with a seven-craft-breweries thirst. The cliff dwellings of Mesa Verde National Park are rich in brewing history. Or, none at all. The people of Mesa Verde did not brew beer. But, local Apache tribes brewed corn beer. With no carbonation and a low alcohol content, Native American corn beer doesn’t sound very good at all, but hey. Beer is beer, right?

James and Martin plan an ancient-inspired beer at a brewery called Ska Brewing, inspired by Ska music. I like this place already. After tasting many, many beers, the boys decide to brew a beer as if it were a thousand years ago and maybe use some corn in the recipe. So…corny…ska…perfect.

For some reason, locals are asked to taste beers while dangling from a zip line. It seems like maybe James and Martin are trying to infuse the beer with adrenaline? I don’t know, I’ve never really understood Colorado. It’s an outdoorsy state and I’m an indoorsy girl.

With no electricity or stainless steel, James and Martin have to figure out how to brew beer in clay pots. They head to Red Cliff’s Pottery, and this should be interesting. Spinning clay pottery is hard, as James and Martin soon find out when they make something not even worthy to be called a second-grader’s first ashtray. Of course they reenact that scene in Ghost.

Next, it’s time to harvest pine nuts which I learn are inside of pine cones. I did not know that! Huh. Also news to me is the fact that pinecones are fruit. These are things that indoor girls just never ponder. And, oh wow. Those pinecones are really high up in those trees. That looks about twelve stories in the air before the bucket doesn’t go any higher and they have to climb the rest of the way. And of course the pinecones are on the outer branches. Nobody dies, but James and Martin seem genuinely annoyed at the pinecone collection process.

More about pinecones—you have to burn them to get the pine nuts out of the pinecones, and there’s a fireman on hand to offer both his handsomeness and fire prevention savvy. Once the pinecones are burned to a certain special amount, the pinecones must be smashed in order to shake out the pine nuts. Wow. That’s a lot of effort for a tiny nut.

Listicles! The top five craft beer bars in tiny little Durango, Colorado are:

5. Lady Falconburgh’s Barley Exchange

4. The Office Spiritorium

3. Derailed Pour House

2. El Rancho Tavern

1. El Moro Spirits & Tavern

It’s finally time to brew some beer. Unfortunately, the clay pot is cracking over the open flame. And then it just plain old falls apart. A new brew system is built that involves less of an open flame and more of a boiling water type of thing. Corn is crushed with a rock and it takes just about forever.

I can’t believe there are enough to make a list of five, but these are the top five craft breweries in Durango, Colorado:

5. Durango Brewing Co.

4. Steamworks Brewing Co.

3. BREW Pub & Kitchen

2. Pagosa Brewing Co.

1. Carver Brewing Co.

Somehow, the water boils and beer is brewed without anyone losing an eye. But how does the new ancient ale taste? The crowd at Ska Brewing give it a mixed-yet-polite review.

Next week, milking cows in California.

This week Brew Dogs hits Delaware. When I think of Delaware, I think of Joe Biden and limited liability corporations. But James and Martin think of Dogfish Head Brewery, known for their dry hop IPAs. The brewery has a metal tree house in the backyard, so I already like this place more than most breweries.

I can’t figure out what this has to do with anything, but James and Martin decide to make the fastest beer ever made. We learn that it’s all about yeast, which ferments faster in warmer temperatures. There’s a NASCAR racetrack nearby, the Dover International Speedway, which is totally convenient for beer brewing. And, bees are deemed to be one of the fastest insects, so honey will be incorporated into the beer. Go for it, boys.

Oh hi, historical reenactment that somehow has anything to do with beer brewing. “To America!” The boys bust the myth that new beers taste better. Turns out the aged beers are smoother with a more complex flavor. So…dusty beer is better? The Continental Army suits up to fight the Redcoats, and did James and Martin just enlist in the military? I think they’re just doing it for the cool hats. Uh, those are real guns. Guns and beer do not mix, unless you live in one of those states that allows open carry in bars.

It’s time for our first listicle! The top five craft breweries (apart from Dogfish Head, of course):

5. 3rd Wave Brewing Co.

4. Argilla Brewing Co.

3. Mispillion River Brewery

2. Fordham & Dominion Brewing Co.

1. Twin Lakes Brewing Co.

Beekeepers! House bees, worker bees, guard bees, nurse bees, house bees, drones, queen bees, I love these industrious little critters. James and Martin put on those funky outfits that look like a cross between a fencer and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and collect honey. It is then sliced and put into a giant metal extractor where it is spun and poured like…honey!

Next is caramel popcorn which I guess is either added to, or eaten with, beer. Then, it’s off to Dover Speedway. There’s a truck with brewing equipment strapped to the back, and everyone is relying heavily on centripetal force sticking very closely to the laws of gravity.

The top five craft beer bars in Delaware are:

5. Arena’s Deli & Bar

4. Cantwell’s Tavern

3. Two Stones Pub

2. Henlopen City Oyster House

1. Pickled Pig Pub

I really don’t know about this truck brewing speed racetrack thing. It just looks…unstable. Hahaha, the boys have to make a pit stop to add the mash, which requires an entire pit crew. The process only took fifteen seconds, which sounds pretty fast.

After driving around the track a few times, the crew tests the beer in the fastest beer tasting ever. Then, the wort must be transferred into the boiler kettle. I have no idea what that means. Finally, the spices go into the boiling mixture, including local honey. At 72mph, James and Martin break the speed record for brewing beer.

In less than ten days, James and Martin brewed a delicious beer using local Delaware honey, and the help of local Delaware locals. The beer is deemed to taste clean and crisp, with honey, anise and a lack of maturity.

On this week’s episode of Brew Dogs, it’s Vegas, baby! Vegas! When I think of Vegas, I think of beer. Right after I think of gambling, money, hookers, and Siegfried and Roy. To bump beer up on that list, James and Martin set out to brew the most expensive beer in the world, and auctioning it off for gobs and bogs of money.

They start out at a local brewery for some liquid inspiration. An imperial stout does the trick inasmuch as anything called imperial is automatically way more expensive than anything not called imperial.

Showgirls are blindfolded and beer is tasted. The theory is the darker the beer, the richer the flavor. There’s talk of vagazzling, and their eyes are up here, boys. Next, a trip to Artisanal Foods for some extravagant ingredients. Tahitian vanilla beans are $160/lb, so they go in the cart. Saffron is more expensive than gold, so toss it in the basket. Expensive water?! Now that’s just stupid. Here, try some cocoa nibs. Ooh, truffle. And those coffee beans I’ve heard about that are eaten by wild cats and then pooped out the other end. Finally, edible gold. The tab totals $2,220 which is a pretty good start.

We’ve all heard that beer gives a good shampoo because of vitamins and something about cuticles, so why not try it out on a local lady loan shark. She wasn’t hot enough, so they found a former-playmate-current-burlesque dancer to shampoo with the brew. She insists on shampooing Martin’s chest hair with the beer, and I’m not sure we’re seeing the complete footage.

Anyway, a penthouse suite in Caesar’s Palace seems like a great way to spend a lot of money while brewing beer. But pairing it with fancy foods plucked from an exspenive buffet makes it even pricier.

James and Martin fill us in on the top five craft beer bars in Las Vegas, and I’m thinking these guys know what they’re talking about:

5. Pub 1842

4. Aces & Ales

3. Freakin’ Frog (both beer and whiskey)

2. Atomic Liquors (the oldest bar in Las Vegas)

1. Public House (at the Venetian)

And the top five craft breweries in Las Vegas are:

5. Triple 7 Restaurant and Microbrewery

4. Boulder Dam Brewing Co.

3. Big Dog’s Brewing Co.

2. Banger Brewing

1. Joseph James Brewing Co.

Uh, that’s stretching the borders of Vegas quite a bit, but whatever.

Ah hahaha, Caesar arrives in a plastic costume to stir the beer with a plastic sword. There’s really nothing not to love about Vegas. And don’t forget—this beer is brewed with the most expensive water ever. Add in the vanilla, cocoa, golden flecks, black truffle, and yes Martin, after drinking this concoction, you will have the most expensive pee ever peed.

But what about the bottle? Best to commission the bottle from a glass blower. And it’s…ugly. In a very Vegas kind of way. Which means it’s perfect for auctioning off the most expensive beer on the planet. They haven’t named the beer, but it wants to be called Baller Beer soooo bad.

Robin Leach auctions off the bottle of beer because why not? The auction stalls out at $1,250, so Robin tosses in his own cash to up the bid to $2,000. For some reason a bunch of women from Atomic Liquors band together to outbid Robin Leach and purchase one bottle of beer for a new world record of $2,650.

Congratulations ladies!

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! Yes, you heard me right. It’s Saint Patrick’s Day in Chicago, and two Scottish brewmasters are going to make the most delicious green beer you’ve ever tasted. Well, not really tasted, since this is television. More like thinking about tasting.

Chicago is the third biggest city in America, behind New York and… New York? James and Martin visit Revolution Brewing to drink some craft beer and figure out how to brew a beer that is green in color, green in flavor, and green in the brewing process. They start with an IPA because it comes in a green can. It tastes like an aristocratic fox in a bow tie eating caramel biscuit cookies. While that sounds delicious, they want to add a bit of organic local whiskey.Whiskey beer? Not the worst idea I’ve ever heard.

Someone decides to make beer using the power of wind, and it sends everyone up to a cold, windy, skyscraper rooftop in what looks like winter but is probably just a crisp Chicago spring. You know what beer brewing needs? Traditional Irish folk music. More beer tasting, awkward smiles at a local Irish pub, and do not play that bagpipe, sir. No, do not. Stop it! STOP IT! The sound is like a cat trying to climb a chalkboard in a room filled with crying babies.

Yay! A listicle! Here are the top five craft breweries in Chicago, according to two Scotsmen:

5. Piece Brewery and Pizzeria

4. Half Acre Beer Company

3. Haymarket Pub Brewery

2. Pipeworks Brewing Co.

1. 3 Floyds Brewing Co.

Okay, back to the green beer brewing debacle. James and Martin talk to the men who dye the river green every year. Wow, do they look mobbed up or what? Not much is learned because everything is a secret. “The first rule of green river club is don’t say nothin’ or you might end up at the bottom of the green river.” The most we glean is that “it’s similar to vegetable dye.” Thanks for that, scary men. Next is Moto, a Michelin-starred restaurant with a totally green basement farm. But wait! It gets better! Paddy Long’s in Lincoln Park pairs beer and bacon! What?! There’s dessert bacon?! I need to go to Chicago right now.

The final ingredient is whiskey from Koval, Chicago’s first distillery. James and Martin retrieve the whiskey from a woman in a very unflattering yellow sweater. As the river gets prepped with something “similar to vegetable dye,” the boys arrive at their rooftop wind powered brewing station. The beer is being brewed with river water. That sounds gross even after it’s explained that the chlorine has been filtered out of the water.

Gasp! Another listicle! The top five craft beer bars in Chicago are:

5. Maria’s packaged goods & Community bar

4. The Publican

3. The Map Room

2. Local Option

1. Hopleaf

The green river looks diseased. There, I said it. Anyway, these wind turbines start the process purring and beer begins…hopping? Boiling? Yes! Hops! I knew that. The green coloring doesn’t get added until after fermentation, and it’s made from the chlorophyll of microgreens. James and Martin unveil the greenest beer in the world to a thirsty Chicago crowd at Revolution Brewing and, well, it’s kind of like a brownish greenish mucky liquid. Everyone seems happy even though it tastes like a salad because in the end, it’s beer.

Next week, it’s the most expensive beer ever brewed in, where else, Las Vegas.

The first city on their list is Durham, North Carolina.

Martin sports a ponytail, which is an unfortunate fashion choice for a decade that does not begin with a nine. He explains that The Sooooth is not really The Sooooth. I think he means “south?” He suggests to James, who wears a cap no matter the weather, that it only makes sense to create the most caloric beer of all time in a town known for its southern barbecue. Uh…sure, cap guy.

Here’s where we get a beer lesson. Specific gravity equals density of something and the density of something else, which basically measures the amount of sugar in a beer. So, the more sugar means the more calories. And beer’s calories are totally useless, hence the beer gut. Anyway, ponytail guy is intrigued by the idea of adding North Carolina maple syrup to the beer, but cap guy is enticed by persimmons. Both ingredients are sweet, which would boost the calorie content.

James and Martin decide to burn calories while creating their beer to balance out the horror of their creation. This means combining beer with a spinning class. No, not kidding. Cap guy swaps out his hat for a sweatband as he spins, and ponytail guy looks like he’s ready for yoga. Plans are made, but thankfully no beer is brewed at the gym. Probably because sweat is low in calories.

Next is a visit to a maple syrup farm. The best thing I learned is that gravity does a lot of the work. Which, duh. But still, good to know. Then, it’s off to the sugar shack which is less sexy than one would expect. In the sugar shack, you can drink freshly boiled sap. Kind of cool, but also sweatier than a spin class. Did you know that a spoonful of maple syrup is 50 calories? That’s…a lot of calories, once you figure how many spoonfuls it takes to make a stack of pancakes delicious. Trust me, don’t do the math. It’s too depressing.

As if maple syrup isn’t enough, James and Martin decide to add delicious North Carolina bacon to their beer. They go straight for the fatty parts, which are by far the tastiest parts of most meat-based animals. Also, don’t forget about pie. Surely there’s a beer that can pair well with pie!? The first pie is apple and prune, which sounds surprisingly disgusting but the boys pair it with a craft beer nonetheless. Next is a pie that is either a southern chess pie, or a southern chest pie. It’s hard to tell, but big difference. Huge difference. The pastry shop owner is not pleased with the pairing, but too bad, lady. Finally, a lemon pie. For me, there’s nothing sadder than a lemon dessert except for a vegetable-based dessert. I don’t even care what their pairing might be, unless it drowns out the disappointing detergent flavoring.

Okay, so maple syrup and bacon has been obtained, and now it’s time to actually brew some beer. Make that mobile beer. It’s a trolley pub, requiring 10riders and well over an hour of peddling. And don’t forget the propane gas tank…. This is both way cool, and way stupid. But, calories are being burned as calories are being brewed, so mission accomplished?

They ride the beer bike for, like, forever. I assume they’re riding through Raleigh-Durham? Or maybe just around the block. It looks especially cold out, so ponytail guy turns into hat guy, and cap guy remains cap guy. Then, our old friend gravity takes over and siphons the golden brew into giant jugs. But how’s the gravity of the beer? It’s high, which means a lot of calories. It is deemed sweet, smoky, meaty, and bitter. Which…okay? I mean, is that a good thing for a beer? Luckily the local beer brewer brings a coffee pecan beer to drink.

But wait! They’re not done yet! The very best way to add calories to beer is to turn the beer into ice cream. A local ice cream shop is on hand to toss in a whole lot of milk, cream, sugar, eggs, and more maple syrup. After six minutes in a deep, deep freeze, Imperial Stout Ice Cream! Sadly, most of it ends up on ponytail guy’s head which is not cool, man. I’m not sure why they didn’t make a beer-and-ice-cream float. That is something I could get behind.

And what does Raleigh-Durham think of this beer bastardization? There’s a Tokyo beer with 525 calories per serving, and James and Martin’s beer has 633 so great big chants of YOU! ESS! EHH! erupt in the beer hall.

Next, St. Patrick’s Day in Chicago, which means a traditional green beer.
