La Toya Jackson is the most normal Jackson. Here, let me repeat that again so that the absurdity can sink in: La Toya Jackson is the most normal Jackson. Now, normal is all relative. Is it normal to live in a hotel suite? Or be surrounded by assistants? No. But come on, she’s still a Jackson.

There are some truly charming moments in Life With La Toya, but none as sweet as La Toya’s sit-down with her best friend, Kathy Hilton. Turns out the Jacksons and the Hiltons grew up together in one of the fancier parts of California. During their teen years, La Toya, Michael, and Kathy did what every six-year-old girl does after a stuffed animal tea party and made a pact to name their children Paris. Which is how the world became infested with Paris Hilton. And then there’s Paris Jackson. And…La Toya named her dog Paris, because furbabies.

Is her bizarre, naive charisma enough to sustain an entire season of reality television? Probably not. But there’s something truly refreshing about La Toya Jackson teetering around in heels and unbelievably tight, bedazzled pants suits, buying her mother bags and bags of candy and directing her assistants to wipe down every last surface with Purell. And hey, it’s not like you all have anything better to do on a Saturday night, right? Right?
